I haven’t posted in a while, mostly because there hasn’t been anything really newsworthy. But as fate would have it the recent (well, a few months ago) announcement by George Lucas is definitely newsworthy.
The sale of LucasFilm (including Industrial Light & Magic or ILM) to the Disney Corporation was a long time coming. George had been toying with the idea for a while and rightly so…he’s in his golden years now and he just wants to take it as easy as he can get it. Of course the sale is for $4.5 Billion dollars. That’s enough for a decent retirement (actually semi-retirement).
Thankfully along with the announcement, Disney has promised to leave LucasFilm intact and in fact will be producing more Star Wars films, starting with Episode 7. Lucas will remain as a creative consultant and LucasFilm will continued to be run by Lucas’ long time friend, colleague and President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy.
